Battery Test

Learn More about the Benefits of Having Your Car's Battery Tested

When it comes to your Subaru, you're bound to want to keep it in great condition. That means keeping all of your vehicle's systems in check. One of them? Its battery, of course! To learn more about your vehicle's battery and why you should have it tested on a regular basis, we encourage you to read on below...

How often should I have my Subaru's car battery tested?

Our team members recommend having your car's battery checked on a regular basis. The easiest way to go about this is to have it checked each time you bring it to our Service Center for an oil change. Utilizing a Subaru specific diagnostic tool, we'll be able to give you an inside look at the health of your vehicle's battery.

What can I do to prevent my Subaru's car battery from dying?

To prevent your car's battery from dying, we encourage you to take care of it as best you can. This means keeping the battery terminals clean and having them regularly inspected, keeping insulated during extreme weather conditions and investing in a car battery charger that will help maintain your battery's charge even when you aren’t driving your vehicle.

How do I know if it's time to replace my car's battery?

If your vehicle's engine is slow to turn over or start, is causing the check engine light to come on, or is over three years old, we recommend stopping by our Service Center to have your car battery's inspected. When these things happen, it more than likely needs replacing. Regardless, we'll be happy to tell you when and if it's time to invest in a new car battery.

Whether you have questions about your car's battery or would like to have it checked by our team, we invite you to stop by our Service Center today. Conveniently located in Bakersfield, CA and just around the corner from Delano, Porterville and Tehachapi, our team looks forward to welcoming you in to our Service Center soon.

Check Engine Air Filter

What Does Your Subaru's Check-Engine Light Mean?

When something goes wrong under the hood of your vehicle, or even if something simply requires some attention and service, your vehicle's check engine light will illuminate. Whether it's an indication of a major repair or something simple like a loose gas cap, your check engine light is there to let you know that something is in need of attention in order to ensure that your Subaru keeps running smoothly.

Some common reasons for your check-engine light illuminating include the following:

  • O2 censor needs to be replaced: Your vehicle's exhaust system needs to monitor how much unburned oxygen is present in order to function properly. This is important because if your vehicle can't detect how much oxygen is present, it may burn more fuel than necessary, decreasing your fuel economy and risking damage to other components under the hood.
  • Loose gas cap: Similar to a faulty O2 censor, a loose gas cap can result in poor fuel economy, but for a different reason and with fewer long-term consequences. Simply put, if your gas cap is loose, you'll lose fuel through evaporation. Luckily, this is an easy issue that you can fix yourself. If you see your gas cap is loose, simply tighten it.
  • Catalytic converter needs to be replaced: If your catalytic converter is on the fritz, you won't be able to convert carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. Why is this important? If your vehicle's catalytic converter isn't running smoothly, its emissions are more harmful to the environment and your engine may run at a higher temperature, which could result in worse damage.
  • Mass airflow sensor needs to be replaced: This component helps your engine to determine how much fuel to burn, like many other components. When it isn't working, the delicate balancing act of running your engine is thrown off pace which can result in poor fuel economy as well as damage to other systems.
  • Spark plugs or wires need to be replaced: Your spark plugs and wires literally provide the spark that your vehicle's engine needs to start up and keep going. If they're unable to do that, your vehicle won't start or it will run poorly. Furthermore, you can risk damage to other previously mentioned components.

Most of the time, if your check engine light is on, it's because of something that requires the attention of a service professional. Here at Sangera Subaru, we're equipped with the tools and knowledge to keep your vehicle running smoothly. If you see your check engine light come on, be sure to get in touch with us today and we'll gladly check it out and perform any necessary repairs.

With this in mind, if you find your car is pulling to one side of the road, or if your steering wheel has a vibration in it, we encourage you to make our Service Center your very first stop.
